Propolis is a resinous material collected by different bee species from various plant exudates and used to seal holes in honeycombs, smoothen the internal walls, embalm intruders, improve health and prevent diseases. From its -hexane extract, eight compounds were isolated and characterised as: mangiferonic acid (); 1-hydroxymangiferonic acid (), new natural product; mangiferolic acid(); 27-hydroxymangiferolic acid (), reported here for the first time as propolis constituent; 27-hydroxymangiferonic acid (); -amyrin (); -amyrin () and lupeol (). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic methods, such as 1D and 2D-NMR, mass spectrometry and comparison with previous published reports.

Context: Schiff bases, which have intriguing properties in many areas, have been studied extensively in recent years due to their structural properties and biological activities. In this research, a novel water-soluble Schiff base complex, Catena-((μ-(E)-2-((4-methoxy-2-oxidobenzylidene) ammonio) ethane-1-sulfonato potassium, CHKNOS (CMOAESP), was synthesized by a one-step condensation reaction of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzaldehyde and taurine with the yield of 65%, 0.333 g.

To reduce the risk of adsorption of granular activated carbon (AC) in the gastrointestinal tract, we successfully prepared a hollow-type spherical bacterial cellulose gel encapsulated with AC (ACEG) and evaluated its pH tolerance and adsorption capacity. The bacterial cellulose gel membrane of ACEG features a three-dimensional mesh structure of cellulose fibers, allowing the selective permeation of substances based on their size. In this study, the preparation method of ACEGs was investigated, and the indole saturation adsorption capacity of the obtained gel was measured.

The presence of microbial biofilms in many human chronic wounds led to the hypothesis that biofilms delay healing of these wounds. We tested this hypothesis in a population of 117 older individuals with venous leg ulcers who were receiving standardised therapy, including frequent debridement. Debridement specimens were analysed for the amount of bacterial biomass by two independent methods: a microscopic approach that scored the relative size and number of bacterial aggregates, interpreted as a biofilm metric, and conventional enumeration by agar plating for viable bacteria.

This paper presents a prototype of a portable and modular electrical impedance tomography (EIT) system for breast tumor detection. The proposed system uses MATLAB to generate three-dimensional representations of breast tissue. The modular architecture of the system allows for flexible customization and scalability.
