The Current Epizootiological Situation of Three Major Viral Infections Affecting Cattle in Egypt.

Viruses

September 2024

National Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan 430070, China.

One of the major factors hindering efficient livestock production is the presence of high-impact infectious animal diseases, such as foot and mouth disease (FMD), lumpy skin disease (LSD), and bovine ephemeral fever (BEF), which are notable viral infections affecting cattle in Egypt, leading to significant economic losses. FMD is caused by the foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) of the genus in the family. LSD is caused by lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) of genus within the family, subfamily .

High-pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) of the goose/Guangdong lineage are enzootically circulating in wild bird populations worldwide. This increases the risk of entry into poultry production and spill-over to mammalian species, including humans. Better understanding of the ecological and epizootiological networks of these viruses is essential to optimize mitigation measures.

A Multidisciplinary "One Health" Tool for Tackling Brucellosis.

Vector Borne Zoonotic Dis

June 2024

Zoonoses Department, National Public Health Organization, Athens, Greece.

The Epizootiological Investigation Form (EIF) is a document issued for every notified human brucellosis case, with the aim to convey information from public health to veterinary authorities for farm animals epidemiologically linked with the patient. We assessed the integration of EIF to the routine collaboration among stakeholders and the efficiency in directing the veterinary efforts to identify -infected animals. EIFs were evaluated for the implementation, timeliness, and completeness of the shared information provided by the public health and the veterinary authorities.

To understand the epizootiologic characteristics of pathogens and opportunistic infections in one Beagle dog production colony and three research facilities, viruses and mycoplasma were detected in 1777 samples collected from Beagle dogs in China by polymerase chain reaction/reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and bacteria were isolated and identified by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. In addition, genotyping of the major circulating viruses was carried out by amplification of gene fragments and homology analysis. Canine coronavirus (CCoV), , canine parvovirus (CPV), , , , , , canine astrovirus (CaAstV), canine kobuvirus (CaKV), , , , , canine bocavirus (CBoV) and canine adenovirus (CAdV) were detected in the samples.

Epizootiological surveillance of porcine circoviruses in free-ranging wild boars in China.

Virol Sin

October 2023

Changchun Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Changchun, 130122, China. Electronic address:

Four species of porcine circoviruses (PCV1-4) have been reported to circulate in Chinese domestic pigs, while the epizootiology of these viruses in free-ranging wild boars in China remains unknown. In this study, tissue and serum samples collected from diseased or apparently healthy wild boars between 2018 and 2020 in 19 regions of China were tested for the prevalence of PCV1-4 infections. Positive rates of PCV1, PCV2, and PCV3 DNA in the tissue samples of Chinese wild boars were 1.
