Neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus discharge synchronously in brain state-dependent manner to transfer information. Published studies have highlighted the temporal coordination of neuronal activities between the hippocampus and a neocortical area, however, how the spatial extent of neocortical activity relates to hippocampal activity remains partially unknown. We imaged mesoscopic neocortical activity while recording hippocampal local field potentials in anesthetized and unanesthetized GCaMP-expressing transgenic mice.

Animal models are commonly used to investigate developmental processes and disease risk, but humans and model systems (e.g., mice) differ substantially in the pace of development and aging.

Fañanas cells (FCs) are cerebellar glia of unknown function. First described more than a century ago, they have been almost absent from the scientific literature ever since. Here, we combined whole-cell, patch clamp recordings, near-UV laser photolysis, dye-loading and confocal imaging for a first characterization of FCs in terms of their morphology, electrophysiology and glutamate-evoked currents.

Background: Nemolizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody against interleukin-31 receptor A (IL-31RA), is used to treat atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis. These inflammatory skin diseases affect a wide range of age groups, including pregnant women and children; however, little is known about their biological effects on pre- and postnatal development. Therefore, we report and discuss the results of an enhanced pre- and postnatal development study in cynomolgus monkeys treated with nemolizumab, which also incorporates an assessment of juvenile toxicities.

Studies on pain in preterm infants have usually been confined to observations of painful procedures, and information from extremely preterm infants is limited. Using registry data from a Swedish nationwide cohort, this study explored the epidemiology of pain in very preterm infants, its causes, assessments, and treatment strategies. We included liveborn infants <32 weeks' gestational age (GA) discharged between January 2020 and June 2024.
