Evaluating amyloid-beta aggregation and toxicity in transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans models of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia in the elderly, clinically characterized by memory loss, cognitive decline, and behavioral disturbances. Its pathogenesis is not fully comprehended but involves intracellular depositions of amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau. Currently, pharmacological interventions solely slow the progression of symptoms.

Incidental nanoparticle characterisation in industrial settings to support risk assessment modelling.

Research on nanoparticle (NP) release and potential exposure can be assessed through experimental field campaigns, laboratory simulations, and prediction models. However, risk assessment models are typically designed for manufactured NP (MNP) and have not been adapted for incidental NP (INP) properties. A notable research gap is identifying NP sources and their chemical, physical, and toxicological properties, especially in real-world settings.

The search for neuroprotective compounds in lavender is driven by its traditional use for brain health, with antioxidant activity serving as a key mechanism in reducing oxidative stress and supporting cognitive function. Lavender's potential to protect neurons is based on its calming, anti-stress properties, which increase the brain's resistance to neurodegeneration. Although lavender is not a traditional medicinal plant in Ukraine, it is increasingly recognised for its medicinal properties and is widely cultivated in the country.

Proteins and DNA Sequences Interacting with Tanshinones and Tanshinone Derivatives.

Int J Mol Sci

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University, Kampala P.O. Box 7062, Uganda.

Tanshinones, biologically active diterpene compounds derived from , interact with specific proteins and DNA sequences, influencing signaling pathways in animals and humans. This study highlights tanshinone-protein interactions observed at concentrations achievable in vivo, ensuring greater physiological relevance compared to in vitro studies that often employ supraphysiological ligand levels. Experimental data suggest that while tanshinones interact with multiple proteomic targets, only a few enzymes are significantly affected at biologically relevant concentrations.

Leaf Extract Protects C2C12 Mouse Myoblasts Against the Suppressive Effects of Bisphenol-A on Myogenic Differentiation.

Int J Mol Sci

Research Center for Non-Infectious Diseases and Environmental Health Sciences, Research Institute for Health Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand.

Recently, toxicological and epidemiological research has provided strong support for the unfavorable effects of bisphenol-A (BPA, 2,2'-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane) on myogenesis and its underlying mechanisms. Researchers have therefore been looking for new strategies to prevent or mitigate these injurious effects of BPA on the human body. It has been found that plant extracts may act as potential therapeutic agents or functional foods, preventing human diseases caused by BPA.
