Snake-related injury (SRI) is one of the most common medical emergencies encountered in tropical countries such as Malaysia. The majority of snake bites are nonvenomous, while the less common venomous snakebite can cause major disability or even death. There are 16 pit viper species documented in Malaysia which can be categorized based on their habitat.

Aim: In case of systemic anaphylactic reactions after Hymenoptera stings, patients should be provided with an adrenaline autoinjector (AAI). We aimed to evaluate the education and handling competence of patients in a real-world setting.
Materials And Methods: Patients with Hymenoptera venom allergy presenting for the first time in our clinic with a previously prescribed emergency kit including an AAI were interviewed using a standardized questionnaire and were asked to demonstrate the AAI use with a dummy.

Mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of numerous pathogens, including Plasmodium parasites, arboviruses and filarial worms. They pose a significant risk to public health with over 200 million cases of malaria per annum and approximately 4 billion people at risk of arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses). Mosquito populations are geographically expanding into temperate regions and their distribution is predicted to continue increasing.

Conusvenoms are composed of peptides that are commonly post-translationally modified, increasing their chemical diversity beyond what is encoded in the genome and enhancing their potency and selectivity. This study describes how PTMs alter an α-conotoxin's selectivity for specific nAChR subtypes. Venom from the cone snailConus(Asprella)neocostatuswas fractionated using high-performance liquid chromatography and tested using a behavioral intracranial mouse bioassay and a cholinergic calcium imaging assay using SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells.

PA-BJ is a serine protease present in Bothrops jararaca venom that triggers platelet aggregation and granule secretion by activating the protease-activated receptors PAR-1 and PAR-4, without clotting fibrinogen. These receptors also have a relevant role in endothelial cells, however, the interaction of PA-BJ with other membrane-bound or soluble targets is not known. Here we explored the activity of PA-BJ on endothelial cell receptor, cytoskeleton, and coagulation proteins in vitro, and show the degradation of fibrinogen and protein C, and the limited proteolysis of actin, EPCR, PAR-1, and thrombomodulin.
