Background: Construct validity and responsiveness of upper limb outcome measures are essential to interpret motor recovery poststroke. Evaluating the associations between clinical upper limb measures and sensor-based arm use (AU) fosters a coherent understanding of motor recovery. Defining sensor-based AU metrics for intentional upper limb movements could be crucial in mitigating bias from walking-related activities.

The influence of interface morphology is of great importance on the shear behavior of the cement mortar-coal composite structure (CCCS) widely distributed in underground mines. In the present research, both the macroscopic- and microscopic failure characteristics of the CCCS with variable interface sawtooth angles (i.e.

Voltage-gated potassium conductances [Formula: see text] play a critical role not only in normal neural function, but also in many neurological disorders and related therapeutic interventions. In particular, in an important animal model of epileptic seizures, 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) administration is thought to induce seizures by reducing [Formula: see text] in cortex and other brain areas. Interestingly, 4-AP has also been useful in the treatment of neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and spinal cord injury, where it is thought to improve action potential propagation in axonal fibers.

Hippocampal DNA methylation promotes contextual fear memory persistence by facilitating systems consolidation and cortical engram stabilization.

Biol Psychiatry

January 2025

Department of Neurobiology, Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN), Heidelberg University, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany; Department of Molecular and Cellular Cognition Research, Central Institute of Mental Health, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, 68159 Mannheim, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: Long-term fear memory storage involves gradual reorganization of supporting brain regions over time, a process termed systems consolidation. Memories initially rely on the hippocampus but gradually shift dependence to the neocortex. Although hippocampal activity drives this transfer, the molecular basis of systems consolidation is largely unknown.

Management of presymptomatic juvenile patients with late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD).

Neuromuscul Disord

January 2025

ERN-NMD Center for Neuromuscular Disorders of Messina - Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, University of Messina, Messina, Italy. Electronic address:

Late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD) includes patients from 1 year of age to adulthood. The vast heterogeneity in clinical manifestations and disease progression is not fully explained; however, a short disease duration and a young age seem to be good predictors of a better response to treatment. For this purpose, we investigated and followed up a cohort of 13 juvenile patients with LOPD from the clinical and therapeutic point of view, mainly pointing out the transition from presymptomatic to symptomatic status.
