Article Synopsis
  • Synchronization in brain networks is crucial for processing information, but time delays in signal transmission can significantly influence this process, especially in more complex spiking neural networks.
  • The study involves investigating synchronization conditions and dynamics in a two-dimensional network of adaptive exponential integrate-and-fire neurons, focusing on how delay impacts this behavior.
  • Findings reveal that synchronization patterns depend on a combination of properties at different levels, including individual neuron characteristics, network connectivity, and long-range connections, which together affect the emergent activity patterns in the brain.

Objective: To report the annual and age-specific incidence of ANCA associated vasculitis and polyarteritis nodosa in the adult population of Norfolk County, UK.

Methods: Individuals newly diagnosed with ANCA associated vasculitis or polyarteritis nodosa between 1st Jan 2011 and 31st December 2020, residing in the postal areas of NR1-NR30 were included. Patients were classified according to the European Medicines Agency algorithm.

Why has the 'miracidium' of Notocotylidae (Trematoda: Digenea) lost all stage-specific traits?

Parasitol Res

Department of Invertebrate Zoology, Saint Petersburg University, Universitetskaya emb., 7/9, Saint Petersburg, 199034, Russia.

Digeneans of the family Notocotylidae differ from other digeneans in their peculiar eggs. The eggs feature a pair of long filaments extending from their poles, and their contents differ significantly from what we expect to observe in the eggs of digeneans. Instead of a ciliated miracidium larva, the notocotylid egg contains a tiny few-celled mother sporocyst.

Water dynamics are investigated in binary osmolyte-water mixtures, exhibiting a microscopic heterogeneity driven by molecular aggregation, on the basis of molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies. The protecting osmolyte TMAO molecules in solution are evenly dispersed without the formation of noticeable osmolyte aggregates, while the denaturant TMU molecules aggregate readily, generating microscopic heterogeneity in the spatial distribution of component molecules in TMU-water mixtures. A combined study of MD simulation with graph theoretical analysis and spatial inhomogeneity measurement with -values in the two osmolyte solutions revealed that the translational and rotational motions of water in the microheterogeneous environment of TMU-water mixtures are less hindered than those in the homogeneous media of TMAO-water mixtures.

Intoxication of sheep and cattle by recently occurred in Uruguay and Argentina in association with severe drought. Although the disease was experimentally reproduced in sheep in the 1970s, there is limited information on clinical and pathologic findings of sheep experimentally intoxicated by this beetle. Here, we described the clinical, gross, and microscopic findings in 3 sheep orally dosed with (treatment group, TG) and in 2 control sheep (control group, CG) dosed with distilled water.
