Microcirculation is an essential system that regulates oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissues in response to various environmental stimuli and pathophysiological conditions. Diabetes mellitus can cause microvascular complications including nephropathy, neuropathy, and retinopathy. The pathogenesis of microvascular dysfunction in diabetes is associated with hyperglycemia and the result of an interplay of various factors.

Background: Preclinical studies have demonstrated that therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) increases perfusion in peripheral artery disease (PAD). This pilot study assessed the safety and effectiveness of a noninvasive TUS device in patients with advanced PAD.

Methods: A phased array of TUS transducers was fabricated on a wearable sleeve, designed to sonicate the posterior and anterior tibial arteries (and their collaterals) at the calf level.

Regulation of Cerebral Blood Flow Velocity by Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation: A Preliminary Study.

Healthcare (Basel)

September 2024

Department of Health Sciences and Technology, Gachon Advanced Institute for Health Sciences & Technology (GAIHST), Gachon University, Incheon 21936, Republic of Korea.

Objectives: An excessive and abrupt increase in cerebral blood flow may cause blood vessel damage, leading to stroke. Therefore, appropriate methods to immediately regulate blood flow velocity are important. Through an analysis of 31 healthy adults, we therefore investigated whether stimulating the common carotid artery (CCA) using transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) could modulate blood flow velocity in the CCA.

Leg Ulcer (LU) pathophysiology is still not well understood in sickle cell anaemia (SCA). We hypothesised that SCA patients with LU would be characterised by lower microvascular reactivity. The aim of the present study was to compare the microcirculatory function (transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO) on the foot and laser Doppler flowmetry on the arm) and several blood biological parameters between nine SCA patients with active LU (LU+) and 56 SCA patients with no positive history of LU (LU-).

Background: The aim of this registry study was to evaluate the effects of Pycnogenol and Centellicum (PYCE) on skin perfusion and skin elasticity in healthy women over a period of 4 weeks.

Methods: The supplemented women used 150 mg of Pycnogenol and 450 mg of Centellicum daily. The supplemented group used the combination PYCE daily for 4 weeks and followed the standard management (SM) in addition.
