Molecular Mechanism Behind the Capture of Fluorinated Gases by Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Nanomicro Lett

January 2025

College of Environmental Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, Tongji University, Siping Rd 1239, Shanghai, 200092, People's Republic of China.

Fluorinated gases (F-gases) play a vital role in the chemical industry and in the fields of air conditioning, refrigeration, health care, and organic synthesis. However, the direct emission of waste gases containing F-gases into the atmosphere contributes to greenhouse effects and generates toxic substances. Developing porous materials for the energy-efficient capture, separation, and recovery of F-gases is highly desired.

The soils/sediments organic carbon sorption coefficient (K) of organic substances is one of the indispensable environmental behavioral parameters in chemicals management. Because the test procedure used to measure K is normally expensive and time-consuming, predictive methods are considered vitally important technology to fill the data gap of K. In this study, quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models are developed using a data set with 1477 experimental logK values and seven typical machine learning algorithms.

Electronic address:

The volcanic soils in Chile, where a significant portion of agricultural activities take place, are impacted by the presence of veterinary drugs, including sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The study examines how different soil types influence the movement and retention of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) across four regions of Chile, focusing on conditions at a neutral pH of 7.0.

Photochromic materials with properties that can be dynamically tailored as a function of external stimuli are a rapidly expanding field driven by applications in areas ranging from molecular computing, nanotechnology, or photopharmacology to programable heterogeneous catalysis. Challenges arise, however, when translating the rapid, solution-like response of stimuli-responsive moieties to solid-state materials due to the intermolecular interactions imposed through close molecular packing in bulk solids. As a result, the integration of photochromic compounds into synthetically programable porous matrices, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), has come to the forefront as an emerging strategy for photochromic material development.

Chemical speciation and health risk assessment of potentially toxic elements in playground soil of bell metal commercial town of Eastern India.

Environ Geochem Health

September 2024

Department of Environmental Studies, Siksha-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined playground soil contamination in Khagra, India, focusing on potentially toxic elements (PTEs) like As, Cd, Cu, and Zn that pose health risks, particularly respiratory and gastrointestinal issues for children.
  • - Sequential extraction methods revealed Sn as the most contaminated element, while other PTEs exhibited moderate contamination levels; the highest concentrations typically occurred in the iron and manganese oxide-bound fraction.
  • - The risk assessment indicated moderate health risks associated with several PTEs, while mobility factors showed the ease with which these contaminants could be absorbed into the human body, highlighting the potential dangers of contaminated playground soils.
