Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) may occur secondary to pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). A subset of patients with very severe NK corneal defects may require therapy escalation, and Cenegermin-Bkbj, a recombinant human nerve growth factor, represents a novel treatment option. This case report presents the successful treatment of refractory NK using Cenegermin-Bkbj in a patient after undergoing multiple PPV surgeries.

Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses of sclera in lens-induced myopic guinea pigs.

BMC Genomics

March 2025

Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Key Laboratory of Intraocular Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Background: Myopia development is commonly assessed by an increase in axial length, which may lead to high myopia and visual impairment. This study aims to identify potential biomarkers and signaling pathways in the sclera during experimental axial elongation.

Methods: A myopia guinea pig model was established using male guinea pigs aged 2-3 weeks, which underwent bilateral lens-induced myopization (LIM) (study group) or were left untreated (control group).

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a serious condition affecting diabetes people caused by hemorrhage in the light-sensitive retinal area. DR sufferers should receive urgent therapy to avoid vision loss. The intelligent medical diagnosis system for DR is evolving as a result of the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

The vitreous humor of the eye presents a crucial target for posterior segment therapy due to its proximity to the retina and relatively easy accessibility. Although intravitreous injections have long been the primary method for treating posterior segment disorders, recent successes in non-invasive topical treatments have led to the exploration of alternative administration routes. The objective of our study is to establish a platform for a Parallel Artificial Membrane Permeability Assay (PAMPA) model that mimics the posterior segment, modelling the permeation process of compounds applied topically on the eye.

Introduction: Cognitive impairment (CI) in bipolar disorder (BD) significantly impacts overall functioning and quality of life. A better understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms associated with CI is needed. Studies on neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, have revealed promising findings related to retinal thickness alterations using optical coherence tomography (OCT).
