Combining radiation therapy with immunotherapy is a strategy to improve both treatments. The purpose of this study was to compare responses for two syngeneic head and neck cancer (HNC) tumor models in mice following X-ray or proton irradiation with or without immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI). In the present study, we investigated the synergistic effects of targeted methotrexate-selenium nanostructure containing Myc decoy oligodeoxynucleotides along with X-irradiation exposure as a combination therapy on LNCaP prostate cancer cells. Myc decoy ODNs were designed based on the promoter of gene and analyzed by molecular docking and molecular dynamics assays. ODNs were loaded on the synthesized Se@BSA@Chi-MTX nanostructure.

In this unfortunate scenario, there will be a need to quickly screen a large number of people to assess the amount of radiation exposure and triage for medical treatment. The linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton (LINC) complex has been implicated in various functions of the nuclear envelope, including nuclear migration, mechanotransduction and DNA repair. We previously revealed that the LINC complex component Sad1 and UNC84 domain containing 1 (SUN1) is required for sublethal-dose X-ray-enhanced cell migration and invasion. This study focused on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which contributes to cell migration.

Objectives: In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), poor prognosis and low survival rates are associated with downregulated calprotectin. Calprotectin (S100A8/A9) inhibits cancer cell migration and invasion and facilitates G2/M cell cycle arrest. We investigated whether S100A8/A9 regulates DNA damage responses (DDR) and apoptosis in HNSCC after chemoradiation.
