About 296 million people worldwide are living with chronic hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection, and outcomes to end-stage liver diseases are potentiated by alcohol. HBV replicates in hepatocytes, but other liver non-parenchymal cells can sense the virus. In this study, we aimed to investigate the regulatory effects of macrophages on HBV marker and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) expressions in hepatocytes.

Potential Mechanisms and Effects of Dai Bai Jie Ethanol Extract in Preventing Acute Alcoholic Liver Injury.

Curr Issues Mol Biol

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Quality Ensurance and Sustainable Use of Dao Di Herbs, Institute of Medicinal Plant Development, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100193, China.

This study investigated the protective effect of Dai Bai Jie (DBJ) extract against acute alcoholic liver injury (AALI) and elucidated its potential mechanism. The total saponin level in the DBJ extracts was measured using vanillin-chloroform acid colorimetry. To observe the preventive and protective effects of DBJ on AML-12 cells in an ethanol environment, the effective components of DBJ were identified.

Solar-Active Carbon Nitride Film Integrated by Free Radical Copolymerization for Photocatalytic Indoor Air Purification.

Small

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environment Engineering, University of Ulsan, Daehakro 93, Namgu, Ulsan, 44610, Republic of Korea.

The current lack of stable, scalable, and efficient coating technology dramatically limits the exploitation of solar-driven graphitic carbon nitride (CN) photocatalysts. Herein, a unique, efficient, and scalable method is reported to immobilize CN powder on various substrates ranging from Fluorine tin oxide (FTO), glass, Plexiglas, Al foil, Ti foil, and Granite stone, to even wood. The film shows an outstanding thickness of 212 µm, which is the highest value ever reported.

The aromatic aldehyde synthase (AAS), PonAAS2, from the gall-inducing sawfly has been identified as a biosynthetic enzyme for indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), a key molecule of the plant hormone auxin, which is thought to play a role in gall induction. Unlike other insect AASs that convert Dopa, PonAAS2 uniquely converts L-tryptophan (Trp) into indole-3-acetaldehyde, a precursor of IAA. In this study, an examination of AAS enzymes from various insect species revealed that the ability to convert Trp has been acquired in only a very limited taxonomic group.

Low-temperature catalytic oxidation of ethanol over doped nickel phosphates.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

Laboratory of Coordination and Analytical Chemistry (LCCA), Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Chouaïb Doukkali University, Ben Maachou Road, B.P: 20, 24000, El Jadida, Morocco.

This work is focused on the synthesis and performance of Ni(PO)-based catalysts doped with Cu, Co, Mn, Ce, Zr, and Mg for the complete oxidation of ethanol, aiming at reducing emissions from ethanol-blended gasoline. Nickel phosphate was prepared via the co-precipitation method, followed by impregnation with the specified dopants. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized by XRD, N-physisorption, XRF, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, FESEM, NH-TPD, CO-TPD, and H-TPR to explain their performance.
