Wood has a number of undesirable inherent properties that limit its ability to be used in a wider range of applications. For this reason, in this study, copper-montmorillonite nanoparticles were prepared from natural biomass tung oil and the natural mineral montmorillonite by the ion exchange method. Modified wood with tung oil intercalated with copper-montmorillonite was prepared by a simple and environmentally friendly impregnation and natural curing process.

This study evaluates the feasibility of converting Ca-montmorillonite into Na-montmorillonite through electroosmosis. Comprehensive analyses of current, pH, ζ-potential, and ethylene glycol expansion were conducted to investigate the macro- and microscale effects of electroosmosis. The results demonstrate that electroosmosis effectively reduces the swelling properties of montmorillonite.

This study evaluates the properties of starch/chitosan films (SCF) produced via the casting method, incorporating 40 % (w/w) plasticizers (glycerol and sorbitol) and various concentrations (0, 3, 5, and 10 % (w/w)) of nanoclays (Cloisite 20A, Cloisite 30B, and K-10). The effects of each nanofiller on the films were thoroughly investigated. Films containing nanoclays exhibited reduced water solubility and enhanced thermal stability compared to films without nanofillers.

Natural biopolymer-based liquid mulching films (LMF) have received widespread attention, whereas the fragile structure and limited functionality have severely restricted their application. Herein, polydopamine-coated montmorillonite micro/nanoparticles enhanced pectin-based sprayable multifunctional liquid mulching films (P-MMT@PDA LMF) were prepared. Dopamine has abundant active sites, and its self-polymerization onto the surface of MMT improves the compatibility of MMT with pectin chains, facilitates the homogeneous dispersion of MMT@PDA in pectin polymers, and makes them more tightly entangled through hydrogen bonding.

Aeolian sandy soil is barren and readily leads to low fertilizer utilization rates and yields. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the water and fertilizer retention capacity of these soils. In this paper, three kinds of biochar (rice husk, corn stalk, and bamboo charcoal) and bentonite were used as amendments in the first year of the experiment.
