Molecular detection of Wolbachia sp. and Cytoplasmic incompatibility factors (CifA/B) in wild caught mosquitoes in Côte d'Ivoire.

Mol Biol Rep

January 2025

Equipe Biologie Moléculaire et Biotechnologies, Laboratoire de Recherche, Centre MURAZ, Institut National de Santé Publique, Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

Background: Wolbachia is an endosymbiont bacterium known to stimulate host immunity against arboviruses and protozoa. Côte d'Ivoire is in a malaria-endemic region, and has experienced several dengue epidemics in recent decades as well. In order to help reduce the transmission of pathogens by mosquito vectors, we studied the prevalence of Wolbachia and the distribution of Cytoplasmic incompatibility factors (Cif) genes in different mosquito species caught in the wild in Cote d'Ivoire.

Several bacterial pathogens employ haemophores to scavenge haem from host haemoprotein to obtain an iron source. However, no homologues of well-characterized haemophores are found in Riemerella anatipestifer, a bacterium belonging to the order Flavobacteriales that encodes haem uptake systems. Herein, a unique haemophore RhuH is characterized in this bacterium.

SN-38-indoximod conjugate: carrier free nano-prodrug for cancer therapy.

Ther Deliv

January 2025

Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan.

Background: The integration of immunotherapy alongside chemotherapy represents a crucial approach in the treatment of cancer. Herein we report the SN-38-indoximod conjugate nano-prodrug to address the difficulties encountered by individuals. In this prodrug, SN-38 is connected to indoximod through a specific disulfide linker, which enables the release of the components in response to the tumor microenvironment characterized by elevated levels of glutathione, thereby facilitating programmed chemoimmunotherapy.

Introduction: An electronic waterpipe (electronic hookah) uses an electronic heating element to promote the vaporization and aerosolization of an e-liquid in a waterpipe. There is little or no published information characterizing the toxicant levels or particle size distributions of electronic waterpipe mainstream emission.

Methods: Controlled laboratory experiments were performed to evaluate electronic waterpipe mainstream emission for 40 test conditions: 10 e-liquid products × 2 power settings × 2 puffing topographies.
