This article recapitulates the discoveries and anti-tumoural therapeutical proposals by Francesco Sanfelice, who in 1931 published an essay entitled The Treatment of Cancer and Sarcoma with Cancrocidin (paraneoforming Blastomycetes). Sanfelice's discoveries are contextualised with subsequent scientific discoveries, especially with those by L. Scott McDaniel and G.

Background: Lymphocyte activation gene 3 (LAG-3) is expressed on activated immune cells and has emerged as a promising target for immune checkpoints blockade. However, conflicting findings have been reported regarding the association between LAG-3 expression in tumors and patient prognosis, indicating the need for further investigation into the significance of LAG-3 expression levels in tumor therapies. In this study, Ga-NOTA-XH05, a novel peptide-based positron emission tomography (PET) tracer targeting LAG-3, was constructed to non-invasively detect LAG-3 expression in melanoma after CpG oligonucleotide (CpG) treatment and explore the relationship between LAG-3 expression and therapeutic effect.

The immune system employs soluble effectors to shape luminal spaces. Antibodies are soluble molecules that effect immunological responses, including neutralization, opsonization, antibody-dependent cytotoxicity and complement activation. These molecules are comprised of immunoglobulin (Ig) domains.

Background: Prehospital and early in-hospital use of low titer group O whole blood (LTOWB) for life-threatening bleeding has been independently associated with improved survival compared to component therapy. However, when RhD-positive blood products are administered to RhD-negative females of childbearing potential (FCP), there is a small future risk of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). This raises important ethical questions that must be explored in order to justify the use of RhD-positive blood products, including LTOWB, both in clinical practice and research.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a transmembrane protein expressed in normal prostate cells and overexpressed in prostate cancer. Consequently, it is an important tool in the evaluation of prostate cancer, including the staging of high-risk patients and the assessment of biochemical recurrence. Despite the "specific" designation, benign musculoskeletal conditions, such as fractures, osteodegenerative changes, and fibrous dysplasia, can also show PSMA uptake, which can lead to misinterpretation of the imaging findings.
