Comprehensive treatment strategy in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus-related pulmonary artery hypertension: a case report.

Eur Heart J Case Rep

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Showa University School of Medicine, 1-5-8 Hatanodai, Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo 142-8555, Japan.

Background: Although the prognosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has dramatically improved, pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) is one of the life-threatening comorbidities associated with SLE. The management of the comorbidity is occasionally challenging due to the lack of consensus regarding treatment options including immunosuppressive agents, selective pulmonary vasodilators, and cardiac rehabilitation.

Case Summary: A 28-year-old female who terminated prednisolone after remission of SLE by her own discretion 3 years ago developed dyspnoea on effort.

Improper management of wood impregnation chemicals and treated wood has led to soil contamination at many wood treatment sites, particularly with toxic substances like creosote oil and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). The simultaneous presence of these pollutants complicates the choice of soil remediation technologies, especially if they are to be applied in situ. In this laboratory study, we attempted to immobilise arsenic (As) and simultaneously degrade polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) (constituents of creosote oil) by applying a modified electrochemical oxidation method.

Measurements of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were simultaneously carried out at three different urban locations in Croatia (Zagreb, Slavonski Brod and Vinkovci) characterized as urban residential (UR), urban industrial (UI) and urban background (UB), respectively. This was done in order to determine seasonal and spatial variations, estimate dominant pollution sources for each area and estimate the lifetime carcinogenic health risks from atmospheric PAHs. Mass concentrations of PAHs showed seasonal variation with the highest values during the colder period and the lowest concentration during the warmer period of the year.

Determination and validation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH4) in katsuobushi, plant-based food supplements, and cocoa bean shells using GC-MS/MS.

J Food Drug Anal

December 2024

Division of Research and Analysis, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, No.161-2, Kunyang St, Nangang District, Taipei City 11561, Taiwan, R.O.C.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are primarily generated through the incomplete combustion or pyrolysis of organic materials in various industrial processes. Foods may become contaminated with environmental PAHs found in air, soil, or water, or through industrial food processing methods such as smoking, roasting, drying, and grilling. The Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan has established maximum levels for benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and indicative values for BaP as well as PAH4 (the sum of benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, and benzo[a]pyrene) in foods as operational guidelines.

Stroke Volume Augmentation Improves with PH-Targeted Therapy in Patients with Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hypertension.

University of California, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine and Physiology, 9300 Campus Point Drive, MC #7381, La Jolla, San Diego, CA 92037. Electronic address:

Unlabelled: Exercise-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension (EiPH) is often treated with off-label use of pulmonary arterial hypertension-targeted therapy (PH-targeted therapy). Most measures of PAH severity are normal in patients with EiPH, posing challenges in evaluating for physiological improvement in patients treated for EiPH. In this study, we used non-invasive cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) to assess for objective improvement in patients treated for EiPH.
