Semantic memory, a repository for concepts and factual information, plays a vital role in acquiring and retrieving knowledge. This study explores the impact of age-related knowledge accumulation on semantic cognition, investigating whether a denser representational space affects retrieval processes. Using a semantic feature verification task, we employ both behavioral (reaction time; RT) and neurophysiological (event-related potential; ERP) measures to explore these dynamics across young and older adults.

Tracheostomy Practice in the Italian Intensive Care Units: A Point-Prevalence Survey.

Medicina (Kaunas)

January 2025

Department of Surgical Sciences and Integrated Diagnostics (DISC), University of Genoa, 16126 Genova, Italy.

: A tracheostomy is a frequently performed surgical intervention in intensive care units (ICUs) for patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation. This procedure can offer significant benefits, including reduced sedation requirements, improved patient comfort, and enhanced airway management. However, it is also associated with various risks, and the absence of standardized clinical guidelines complicates its implementation.

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (or CAR-T) therapy and bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) have revolutionized the treatment of hematologic malignancies, offering new options for relapsed or refractory cases. However, these therapies carry risks of early complications, such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), and delayed issues like graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), infections, and secondary cancers. Effective management requires early diagnosis using advanced biomarkers and imaging, along with prompt interventions involving immunosuppressants, corticosteroids, and cytokine inhibitors.

: Anaplastic oligodendrogliomas (AOs) are central nervous system (CNS) World Health Organization (WHO) grade 3 gliomas characterized by isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation (m)IDH and 1p/19q codeletion. AOs are typically treated with surgery and chemoradiation. However, chemoradiation can cause detrimental late neurocognitive morbidities and an accelerated disease course.

Lutein-loaded multifunctional hydrogel dressing based on carboxymethyl chitosan for chronic wound healing.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

National Risk Assessment Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance of Animal Original Bacteria, College of Veterinary Medicine, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China. Electronic address:

Oxidative stress is a major contributor to the difficulties in chronic wound healing. Although antioxidant hydrogels have been developed, they are still insufficient for addressing the entire chronic wound healing process. In this study, a lutein-loaded multifunctional hydrogel dressing (Lutein/CMC/PVP/TA, Lutein/CPT) with synergistic antioxidation properties was developed by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic crosslinking of tannic acid (TA) with carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP).
