Background: Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining is widely considered to be the gold-standard diagnostic tool for histopathology evaluation. However, the fatty nature of some tissue types, such as breast tissue, presents challenges with cryo-sectioning, often resulting in artifacts that can make histopathologic interpretation and correlation with other imaging modalities virtually impossible. We present an optimized on-block H&E staining technique that improves contrast for identifying collagenous stroma during cryo-fluorescence tomography (CFT) sectioning.

Rectal temperature and heat transfer dynamics in the eye, face, and breast of broiler chickens exposed to moderate heat stress.

Poult Sci

Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Université Laval, 2425 Rue de l'Agriculture, Quebec City, Quebec G1V 0A6, Canada; Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases Research Center, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Université de Montréal, 3200 Rue Sicotte, St-Hyacinthe, Quebec J2S 2M2, Canada. Electronic address:

This study aimed to characterize body temperature in finishing broiler chickens and to explore heat transfer dynamics under thermoneutral (TN) and heat stress (HS) conditions. To achieve this, 900 Ross 308 chicks were divided into TN and HS groups, with the HS group subjected to cyclical heat stress (30°C, 45 % RH) from day 28 to day 33 post-hatch. Rectal temperature (T) and skin temperature (T) at the face (T), eye (T), and breast (T) were measured.

The transport of drugs into tumor cells near the center of the tumor is known to be severely hindered due to the high interstitial pressure and poor vascularization. The aim of this work is to investigate the possibility to induce acoustic streaming in a tumor. Two tumor cases (breast and abdomen) are simulated to find the acoustic streaming and temperature rise, while varying the focused ultrasound transducer radius, frequency, and power for a constant duty cycle (1%).

Shielding siRNA by peptide-based nanofibers: An efficient approach for turning off EGFR gene in breast cancer.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2024

Department of Pharmacy, School of Medicine, University of Naples Federico II, Via Domenico Montesano 49, 80131 Napoli, Italy. Electronic address:

Peptide-based self-assembled nanosystems show great promise as non-viral gene and siRNA delivery vectors. In the current study, we designed and functionalized nanofibers for the delivery of siRNA, targeting and silencing EGFR gene overexpressed in triple-negative breast cancer. The nanofiber-mediated siRNA delivery was characterized in terms of zeta potential, morphology, and structural stability by circular dichroism spectroscopy.
