Nitrate reduction requires reducing equivalents produced by the photosynthetic electron transport chain. Therefore, it has been suggested that nitrate assimilation provides a sink for electrons under high light conditions. We tested this hypothesis by monitoring photosynthetic efficiency and the chloroplastic glutathione redox potential (chl-E) of plant lines with mutated glutamine synthetase 2 (GS2) and ferredoxin-dependent glutamate synthase 1 (GOGAT1).

The aim of our study was to assess the effects of low or high-starch diets with or without palmitic acid (C16:0) supplementation on the yield of milk, milk components, and energy partitioning of primiparous and multiparous dairy cows between mid and late-lactation. Thirty-two Holstein cows, 12 primiparous ([mean ± SD] 163 ± 33 d in milk) and 20 multiparous ([mean ± SD] 179 ± 37 d in milk), were used in a split-plot Latin square design. Parity was considered the main plot, and within each plot, treatments were then randomly assigned in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square with 21 d periods and balanced for carryover effects.

This study examined the effects of supplementing dairy cows with a mixture of essential oils on enteric CH emissions, apparent total-tract nutrient digestibility, N utilization, and lactational performance (production, components and efficiency). Thirty-two multiparous lactating Holstein cows were used in a randomized complete block design. Cows averaged (mean ± SD) 95 ± 15.

Agricultural systems are both emitters of greenhouse gases and have the potential to sequester carbon, especially agroforestry systems. Coffee agroforestry systems offer a wide range of intensities of use of agricultural inputs and densities and management of shade trees. We assessed the agronomic carbon footprint (up to farm gate) and modelled the carbon sequestration of a range of coffee agroforestry systems across 180 farms in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Understanding the adaptation of archaea to hypoxia is essential for deciphering the functions and mechanisms of microbes when suffering environmental changes. However, the dynamics and responses of archaea to the sedimentary hypoxia in Bohai Sea are still unclear. In this study, the diversity, composition, and distribution of archaeal community in sediment along an inshore-offshore transect across the oxygen-depleted area in the Bohai Sea were investigated in June, July, and August of 2021 by employing high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene.
