Bacillary layer detachment (BALAD) refers to the distinctive splitting at the level of the photoreceptor inner segment myoid and accumulation of intraretinal fluid, as seen on optical coherence tomography (OCT). BALAD is an increasingly recognized OCT biomarker of numerous heterogeneous chorioretinal diseases, including posterior uveitis, age-related macular degeneration and macular neovascularization, neoplastic and paraneoplastic retinal disorders, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, blunt ocular trauma, and miscellaneous conditions. The recognition of BALAD is clinically relevant because, based on the specific etiology, BALAD may require simple observation, ocular or systemic medical treatment, or even surgical intervention, with subsequent different prognosis.

Follicular cystitis (FC) is a chronic form of cystitis with uncertain etiology, characterized by the presence of lymphoid follicles in the bladder mucosa as a result of chronic irritation. This can be caused by various factors such as prolonged catheterization, lithiasis, recurrent urinary tract infections or neoplastic bladder pathology. Although it is a rare pathology, it is mainly seen in women over 50 years of age and manifests with nonspecific urinary symptoms such as dysuria, pollakiuria, haematuria and suprapubic pain.

Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a pleiotropic genome instability syndrome resulting from the loss of the homeostatic protein kinase ATM. The complex phenotype of A-T includes progressive cerebellar degeneration, immunodeficiency, gonadal atrophy, interstitial lung disease, cancer predisposition, endocrine abnormalities, chromosomal instability, radiosensitivity, and segmental premature aging. Cultured skin fibroblasts from A-T patients exhibit premature senescence, highlighting the association between genome instability, cellular senescence, and aging.

The periarticular adipose tissues play a crucial role in knee biomechanics, yet they are often overlooked in daily radiology practice. As the primary mechanical shock absorbers of the knee, intra-articular fat pads reduce the friction between intra-articular structures during joint movement. They also contribute to inflammatory regulation, endocrine secretion, and pain detection.

Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPF) is a recently described and rare retroperitoneal mass-forming lesion whose clinical significance chiefly involves mimicry of a variety of soft tissue tumors. For unknown reasons, it commonly occurs in male patients with underlying non-neoplastic renal diseases and/or type 2 diabetes (DMT2). A total of 55 cases have been reported in the literature.
