Purpose: Astigmatism can lead to meridional amblyopia, an orientation-specific visual deficit. This study investigated the effects of astigmatism on meridional anisotropy in contrast sensitivity (CS) and steady-state visual evoked potential (ssVEP) across a range of spatial frequencies.

Methods: Thirty-two young adults with a best-corrected distance visual acuity of logMAR 0 or better were categorized into two groups: highly astigmatic (HAS,  = 16) with spherical-equivalent error (SE) ≥ -6.

Background: Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), an active component of honey bee propolis, has been demonstrated in animal models and studies to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, neuroprotective, and cytoprotective properties.

Objective: We investigated the efficacy of CAPE, which we believe may be therapeutically useful in facial nerve restoration due to its neuroprotective and antioxidant properties.

Material And Methods: 20 Sprague Dawley rats were divided randomly into 4 primary and 2 secondary groups and assigned as control, methylprednisolone, CAPE, CAPE+methylprednisolone groups and the sham and the trauma groups.

Electrophysiological mapping and monitoring techniques permit the objective measurement of eloquent cortical regions and accompanying white matter tracts to reduce the incidence of iatrogenic injury in glioma surgery. Recently, there has been increased interest in mapping and monitoring of the human arcuate fasciculus via cortico-cortical evoked potentials (CCEPs) during awake and asleep craniotomy. The authors present the case of a 27-year-old female who underwent a hypnosis-assisted awake craniotomy with cortico-subcortical language mapping and arcuate fasciculus CCEPs.

Background: Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is a heterogeneous condition characterized by complex pathophysiological changes affecting both autonomic and somatic components of the nervous system. Inflammation and oxidative stress are recognized contributors to the pathogenesis of DN. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of dichloroacetic acid (DCA) in alleviating DN symptoms, focusing on its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

We are not only passively immersed in a sensorial world, but we are active agents that directly produce stimulations. Understanding what is unique about sensory consequences can give valuable insight into the action-perception-cycle. Sensory attenuation is the phenomenon that self-produced stimulations are perceived as less intense compared to externally-generated ones.
