Sudden cardiac death is a leading cause of mortality in children with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The PRecIsion Medicine in CardiomYopathy consortium developed a validated tool (PRIMaCY) for sudden cardiac death risk prediction to help with implantable cardioverter defibrillator shared decision-making, as recommended by clinical practice guidelines. The mplemeting a udden Cardiac Dath isk Assessment ool in hildhood (INSERT-HCM) study aims to implement PRIMaCY into electronic health records (EHRs) and assess implementation determinants and outcomes.

Looking at the world often involves not just seeing things, but feeling things. Modern feedforward machine vision systems that learn to perceive the world in the absence of active physiology, deliberative thought, or any form of feedback that resembles human affective experience offer tools to demystify the relationship between seeing and feeling, and to assess how much of visually evoked affective experiences may be a straightforward function of representation learning over natural image statistics. In this work, we deploy a diverse sample of 180 state-of-the-art deep neural network models trained only on canonical computer vision tasks to predict human ratings of arousal, valence, and beauty for images from multiple categories (objects, faces, landscapes, art) across two datasets.

Interpersonal space is regulated carefully and updated dynamically during social interactions to maintain comfort. We investigated the naturalistic processing of interpersonal distance in real time and space using a powerful implicit neurophysiological measure of attentional engagement. In a sample of 37 young adults recruited at a UK university, we found greater EEG alpha band suppression when a person occupies or moves into near personal space than for a person occupying or moving into public space.

A position coding model that accounts for the effects of event boundaries on temporal order memory.

Cogn Psychol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning & IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research, Beijing Normal University, China; Chinese Institute for Brain Research, China. Electronic address:

Episodic memories, particularly temporal order memory, are influenced by event boundaries. Although numerous theoretical and computational models have been developed to explain this phenomenon, creating a model that can explain a wide range of behavioral data and is supported by neural evidence remains a significant challenge. This study presented a new model, grounded in ample evidence of position coding, to account for the impact of event boundaries on temporal order memory.

APOE4 impact on soluble and insoluble tau pathology is mostly influenced by amyloid-beta.

Brain

January 2025

Clinical Memory Research Unit, Department of Clinical Sciences Malmö, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, 22184 Lund, Sweden.

The APOE4 allele is the strongest genetic risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD). While APOE4 is strongly associated with amyloid-beta (Aβ), its relationship with tau accumulation is less understood. Studies evaluating the role of APOE4 on tau accumulation showed conflicting results, particularly regarding the independence of these associations from Aβ load.
