Chitooligosaccharides improves intestinal mucosal immunity and intestinal microbiota in blue foxes.

Front Immunol

December 2024

Department of Livestock and Poultry Breeding, Institute of Special Animal and Plant Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Changchun, China.

Objective: Gut health is critical to the health of the host. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Chitooligosaccharides (COS) on intestinal morphology, intestinal barrier, intestinal immunity and cecum microbiota of blue foxes.

Methods: Seventy-two 125-day-old blue foxes were randomly divided into basal diet (BD) group, 200 ppm COS1 (1.

Seed germination is one of the critical and sensitive stages of early plant growth, and its process is prevented by cinnamic acid (CA). Silicon (Si) plays a critical role in mitigating abiotic stresses and seed germination in plants, but little is known about its role in seed germination and physiology in CA-stressed cucumber. Here, we conducted experiments in the State Key Laboratory of Aridland Crop Science, Gansu Agricultural University from March to June 2021 to investigate the effects of Si-seed priming on growth, antioxidant capacity, sucrose mobilization and respiratory metabolism during germination under CA stress.

The feruloyl oligosaccharides (FOs) produced by the decomposition of plant hemicellulose have broad potential applications in the food and biomedical areas. FOs were prepared through the specific enzymatic degradation of insoluble dietary fiber from different sources by cell-free GH10 and GH11 xylanases. The cell-free GH10 and GH11 xylanases were obtained by the heterologous expression in Escherichia coli.

Synthesis of value-added uridine 5'-diphosphate-glucose from sucrose applying an engineered sucrose synthase counteracts the activity-stability trade-off.

Food Chem

February 2025

School of Biotechnology and Key Laboratory of Carbohydrate Chemistry and Biotechnology of Ministry of Education, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, China; National Engineering Research Center for Cereal Fermentation and Food Biomanufacturing, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on enhancing sucrose synthase (Susy) to improve its effectiveness in converting sucrose to uridine 5'-diphosphate-glucose (UDP-Glc), a key molecule used in sugar transfer reactions.
  • - An engineered version of Susy showed significant improvements, achieving 43 times longer half-life and 1.4 times greater activity than the wild-type enzyme, leading to efficient UDP-Glc production with a yield of 73 g/L/h in just one hour.
  • - By integrating various biocatalysts with Susy, the research has explored new methods for effectively utilizing sucrose and its products, highlighting a sustainable approach for generating valuable compounds like UDP-galactose

Iron-based theranostic nanoenzyme for combined tumor magneto-photo thermotherapy and starvation therapy.

Biomater Adv

January 2025

Shenyang National Laboratory for Material Science, the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Wenhua Road 72, Shenyang 110015, PR China. Electronic address:

To address the issue of high-dose treatment agents in magnetic hyperthermia-mediated multi-model tumor therapy, a unique iron-based theranostic nanoenzyme with excellent magnetothermal and catalytic properties was constructed. By using a high-temperature arc method, the iron carbon nanoparticles (MF1-3) with a particle size between 13.7 and 27.
