Unlabelled: Mondor's disease is a rare benign condition characterized by the formation of subcutaneous bands or strings in various locations, generally assumed to be symptoms of thrombophlebitis or phlebitis of the subcutaneous veins. Some findings, however, point toward a lymphatic origin of the bands. More biopsies of the cord and histologic studies are necessary to resolve this dispute.

We examined factors that may influence the development of arm lymphedema following breast cancer treatment including the specific mode of therapy, patient occupation and life style. Medical record data and a questionnaire were used to collect information after surgery concerning such issues as wound seroma, infection, adjuvant treatment, vessel string (phlebitis), body mass index, smoking habits and stress. Occupational workload was assessed after surgery whereas housework, exercise, hobbies and body weight were assessed both before and after surgery.

Axillary string phlebitis in pregnancy: a variant of Mondor's disease.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman had acute superficial thrombophlebitis in the right axilla. Aside from pregnancy, there were no risk factors for hypercoagulability. This case is presented as a variant of Mondor's disease.

We studied the accuracy of compression sonography in 238 patients suspected of deep venous thrombosis comparable to phlebography. The veins in the thigh were considered to be occluded when their lumen did not collapse under slight pressure with the scanner. In the lower leg, incompressible echosparse strings were regarded to be equivalent to thrombosed veins.
