Two new nor-rubrofusarin derivatives (trichsimins A and B, 1 and 2) and one new chromone derivative (trichsimin C, 5) were isolated from the deep-sea-derived Trichoderma simmonsii ZEN3 along with 20 known compounds (3, 4, and 6-23). The structures of the new compounds were established by detailed analyses of the NMR, HRESIMS, and ORD data. Nafuredin (14) exhibited potent inhibition against RSL3 induced ferroptosis with the EC50 value of 5.

Health-related quality of life in Chagas cardiomyopathy: Development of a theoretical model.

Trop Med Int Health

January 2025

Postgraduate Course in Reabilitação e Desempenho Funcional, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM), Diamantina, Brazil.

Objective: Chagas disease can cause several complications, such as Chagas cardiomyopathy, the most severe clinical form of the disease. Chagas cardiomyopathy is complex and involves biological and psychosocial factors that can compromise health-related quality of life. However, it is necessary to establish interactions that significantly impact the health-related quality of life of this population.

Daylight Saving Time and Automobile Accidents: Evidence From Chile.

January 2025

Big Data Analysis Department, Central Bank of Chile, Santiago, Chile.

Under the evidence that the Daylight Saving Time (DST) regime does not accomplish its primary goal of saving energy, I analyze one of the main side effects, automobile accidents in Chile between 2002 and 2018. I use a Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD) exploiting the discrete nature of the transition into DST and a Difference-in-Difference (DID) approach, taking advantage of the changes in dates that the policy starts and ends over the years. I find a 2.

Microbial Communities in Agave Fermentations Vary by Local Biogeographic Regions.

Environ Microbiol Rep

February 2025

Departamento de Ingeniería Genética, Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Unidad Irapuato, Irapuato, Mexico.

The production of traditional agave spirits in Mexico, such as mezcal, involves a process that uses environmental microorganisms to ferment the cooked must from agave plants. By analysing these microorganisms, researchers can understand the dynamics of microbial communities at the interface of natural and human-associated environments. This study involved 16S and ITS amplicon sequencing of 99 fermentation tanks from 42 distilleries across Mexico.

Robotic-assisted costectomy using a Gigli saw for fibrous dysplasia.

J Cardiothorac Surg

January 2025

Department of Thoracic Surgery, The First People's Hospital of Changzhou, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Changzhou, 213003, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is the most common benign tumor of the ribs, with surgical resection being the preferred treatment modality for rib FD, leading to enhanced quality of life and favorable outcomes. The complexity of surgical intervention varies depending on the location of costal FD, presenting challenges for both open surgical and thoracoscopic approaches. In this study, we present a novel technique for three-port robotic-assisted costectomy utilizing a Gigli saw, detailing our initial findings and outcomes.
