This introductory chapter traces the evolution of (bio)chemical assays, emphasizing the critical role of robust protocols in ensuring reproducibility-a fundamental aspect of scientific research. With the advent of systems biology, the need for standardized methods has intensified, particularly for integrating vast datasets in open-access formats. The historical progression from basic plant morphology to advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques in phytochemistry highlights the necessity for precise, reproducible protocols.

Alternating- and direct-current (ADC) bipolar electropolymerization (EP) offers an efficient and scalable approach for the lateral synthesis of conjugated macromolecules, enabling the simultaneous polymerization and deposition of large conducting polymer films with intriguing fractal-like ramified topographies onto arbitrary insulating substrates under remote control. In this study, we presented the remote synthesis of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT):anion sensing films on a plastic substrate, aimed at their use in flexible nitrogen dioxide (NO) gas sensors. Notably, the PEDOT:ClO films exhibited excellent gas-sensing characteristics, with a sensitivity of 54.

Our previous studies demonstrated that the enzyme aldose reductase (AR) is activated by its interaction with tubulin, a mechanism which can lead to the emergence of secondary diseases in diabetic patients. We also found that different compounds derived from phenolic acid (CAFs) can prevent this interaction and thus AR activation. Here, we used spectroscopic and bioinformatic techniques to explore the interaction between AR and three CAFs: 3-nitrotyrosine (NTyr), Tyrosine (Tyr), and vanillic acid (Van).

Carotenoids are naturally occurring pigments essential for both light-harvesting and photoprotection in photosynthetic processes. Among these, carbonyl-containing carotenoids exhibit distinctive excited state properties due to the presence of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in their excited states. In this study, we synthesized a novel family of carotenoid analogs with varying numbers of conjugated double bonds, denoted as the Ind series, and conducted femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy on these molecules in both acetone and n-hexane.
