Background: Hallux abducto valgus (HAV) is one of the most common forefoot deformities in adulthood with a variable prevalence but has been reported as high as 48%. The study proposed that HAV development involves a skeletal parameter of the first metatarsal bone and proximal phalanx hallux (PPH) to determine if the length measurements of the metatarsal and PPH can be used to infer adult HAV.

Methods: All consecutive patients over 21 years of age with HAV by roentgenographic evaluation were included in a cross-sectional study.

Quality of cementation in conventional versus minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty.

J Orthop Surg (Hong Kong)

April 2016

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Singapore General Hospital, Singapore.

Purpose: To review the immediate postoperative radiographs of 108 patients following conventional or minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to assess the quality of cementation in terms of cement voids and retained cement.

Methods: Records of 20 male and 88 female consecutive patients aged 50 to 83 (mean, 67.5) years who underwent conventional TKA (n=56) or computer-assisted minimally invasive TKA (n=52) for osteoarthritis by a single senior surgeon were reviewed.

It is a benign but locally aggressive neoplasm, classically seen as a purely lytic lesion of the epiphyseal or metaphyseal-epiphyseal region of long tubular bones extending to the articular surface. It usually occurs after skeletal maturation and is one of the rare bone tumors that more frequently affects women.
