Facile and Regioselective Deuteration of C2-Alkylated Imidazolium Salts in the Presence of Cesium Carbonate.

Chemistry

December 2024

Université de Liège: Universite de Liege, Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis, Institut de chimie B6a, Sart-Tilman, 4000, Liege, BELGIUM.

Thirteen imidazolium iodides bearing benzyl, mesityl, or 2,6-diiso-propyl-phenyl substituents on their nitrogen atoms, and C1 to C4 alkyl chains on their C2 carbon atom were readily deuterated with D2O as a cheap and non-toxic deuterium source in the presence of Cs2CO3, a weak, innocuous, inorganic base. The isotopic exchange proceeded quickly and efficiently under mild, aerobic conditions to afford a range of aNHC and NHO precursors regioselectively labeled on their C2α exocyclic position and/or C4=C5 heterocyclic backbone. A "carbene-free" mechanism was postulated, in which the carbonate anion acts as a catalyst to activate an exocyclic, acidic C-H bond and ease a deuterium transfer from D2O to the imidazolium salt in a concerted fashion.

High lithium (Li) and cesium (Cs) concentrations in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau thermal springs pose environmental and health challenges, but their origins and enrichment mechanisms remain unclear. This study focuses on the Sogdoi geothermal field, located along the southern Karakoram Fault, to investigate these processes. Multi-isotope analyses (H, O, Li, Sr) reveal that Li and Cs predominantly originate from the host rocks, especially granitoids and meta-sedimentary rocks, rather than from magmatic fluids.

The summary of risk response on radioactive substances contained in food items in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear accident.

J Radiat Res

December 2024

Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, School of Medicine, Keio University, 35, Shinano, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160-8582, Japan.

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident occurred after the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11 March 2011. The regulations for food items contaminated with radioiodine or radioactive cesium were introduced immediately after the accident by establishing a tentative limit for the contamination level. These regulations excluded or minimized the excessive internal radiation exposure in Japan.

Purpose: For cervical cancer patients, intra-cavitary brachytherapy (ICBT) is utilized with various dose-rate systems, such as low-dose-rate (LDR), high-dose-rate (HDR), and pulsed-dose-rate (PDR). This retrospective analysis aimed to compare the therapeutic outcomes of cervical cancer patients treated with either LDR-, HDR-, or PDR-ICBT.

Material And Methods: A total of 613 patients were treated with pelvic external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), followed by either LDR- (271 patients), HDR- (259 patients), or PDR- (83 patients) ICBT.
