Purpose: We compared reproductive outcome in patients with two subtypes of bicornuate uterus who underwent a Strassmann metroplasty procedure.

Methods: Eleven patients diagnosed using the R-AFS definition were divided into partial and complete type, then reproductive outcome following a Strassmann metroplasty was evaluated.

Results: All four patients with the partial type anomaly conceived and achieved a live birth, while none of the seven with the complete type anomaly were able to conceive.

The reproductive outcome of 404 women with confirmed uterine malformations was studied. The most common uterine anomaly was complete or incomplete septate uterus (48%). Bicornuate uterus was found in 17% of women, and unicornuate and didelphic both in 10%.

Strassmann's operation in the presented manner has proven to be a valuable intervention in the case of infertility due to uterus bicornis or subseptus. The pregnancy rate observed after the operation was 92%, while the rate of abortion was 16%. Strassmann's operation requires smaller incisions compared with other metroplasties and was therefore continued.

During 14 years, 430 women with some type of congenital uterine malformation were discovered by different methods, with a rate of 1 in 137 deliveries. In only 17 was metroplasty indicated, because of very poor reproductive performance; out of 42 desired pregnancies, only 14.3% live births resulted.
