The results of a clinical, histopathological and biochemical study on twenty patients with schistosomal polyposis of the large bowel and ten patients with normal colon as a control are reported. The biopsy showed clearly the absence of any malignant or premalignant changes in all the twenty bilharzial patients. Results of the biochemical study showed that there is a statistically significant increase in beta-glucuronidase activity in schistosomal polypi compared to normal mucosa. This enzymatic activity is absent in schistosoma ova. The causes of the increase in the enzyme activity have been attributed to leucocytic infiltration present in schistosomal granulomata and possible to some degree of liver disfunction. The protein content of the excess mucus present in the colon could also activate the enzyme. Our results also show that the increased enzyme activity does not necessarily have carcinogenic properties. We did not come across a single case of malignancy even in a patient with very high level of enzyme activity (11615 units) or in those patients with a prolonged history of the disease.

Triacylglycerol (TAG) is a major component of plant-neutral lipids. Diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2) plays an important role in plant oil accumulation by catalyzing the final step of the Kennedy pathway. In this study, ten DGAT2 sequences were originating from different oil crops into the TAG-deficient yeast strain H1246, to compare their enzyme activity of oil synthesis and filter out potential amino acid residue sites for directed evolution.

Background: This study explores the cross-fertilization of transgenic tobacco plants to produce dual-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) targeting Ebola virus-like particles and HER2 proteins. We generated F plants by hybridizing individual transgenic lines expressing the anti-HER2 breast cancer VHH mAb (HV) and the H-13F6 human anti-Ebola large single chain mAb (EL).
Objective: Hybridizing transgenic plants to express dual-antibodies between different structures VHH and LSCK indicate the potential of transgenic plants as a cost-effective and scalable production system for dual targeting mAbs.

Hairy roots mediated by Agrobacterium rhizogenes can be obtained from the composite plants (plants with hairy roots and untransformed aerial parts) by ex vitro method. Composite plants can produce higher amounts of secondary metabolites by merging hydroponic systems. This provides a stable condition for composite plants, in which various metabolites are produced in different parts.

Promoters are crucial elements for controlling gene expression in cells, yet lactic acid bacteria (LAB) often lack a diverse set of available constitutive promoters with quantitative characterization. To enrich the LAB promoter library, this study focused on the known strong constitutive promoter P in LAB. Through error-prone PCR and dNTP analog-induced random mutagenesis, a library of 247 mutants of P was generated by using the red fluorescent protein (RFP) fluorescence intensity as a high-throughput screening indicator in Streptococcus thermophilus.
