An extremely rare case of cavitating large cell carcinoma lung is reported in a middle aged man who developed pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema on thirteenth day of his tele cobalt radiotherapy to chest. Possible mechanisms of such complications during radiotherapy are also discussed.

History And Clinical Findings: A 72-year-old woman was referred because of progressive skin discoloration with venectasia and swelling in the left lower leg, the possible diagnosis being atypical varicose veins. 20 years before she had a right nephrectomy for "clear-cell" renal adenocarcinoma with subsequent tele-cobalt radiotherapy. On examination a pulsating swelling was palpated over the hyperpigmented area of the skin with venectasia.

The presence of Hypoxic cells in a tumor decreases their radiosensitivity; which blocks the efficacy of external tele cobalt irradiation. So a study was undertaken in various cancer patients to observe the role of metrnidazole as a selective radiosensitizer. 717 cancer cases were enlisted and were divided into a study and control group.

The results of different methods of treatment of infiltrative endocrine ophthalmopathy in 68 patients (52 women and 16 men) aged 28-63 years were evaluated. The analysis of the results indicates that combined treatment with glucocorticoids and tele-cobalt therapy may be considered as the method of choice. In patients with rapidly progressive ophthalmopathy and in patients with inactive peptic ulcer intravenous pulsed glucocorticoid administration may be used instead of oral treatment.

The early (immediately after the end of treatment) and late (from 12 to 91, mean 46.3 months after the end of treatment) results of progressive Graves-Basedow ophthalmopathy treatment were evaluated in 71 patients (57 women and 14 men, aged 25-66, mean 47.3 years).
