Background: Fungus gardens of the termite Odontotermes formosanus, excavated from Iriomote Island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, were subsequently incubated under laboratory conditions. A Xylaria species emerging from these fungus gardens was initially identified as X. angulosa, a species originally described from North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

A case of brain injury with a transient syndrome of mainly disinhibited behaviour (Franz Binz) was the subject of the 1888 medical dissertation of Leonore Welt (∗1859 Chernivtsi, Ukraine; †1944 Geneva, Switzerland) which came to be discussed quite controversially. Although Binz was never fully forgotten, the similar "American crow-bar case" (Phineas Gage) attracted more interest. Welt's study, in contrast, provides not only well-illustrated neuropathological findings but also more detailed clinical data.

Introduction: The radial neck fractures in children are uncommon injures and more so in the settings of an associated elbow dislocation. Radial neck fracture, with 90° posterior rotation of the articular surface with respect to its normal axis, is a characteristic feature of rare Jeffery type 2 injury. This injury pattern is reported as sporadic reports or small series in the literature.

The rippled pattern of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a very uncommon variant and poses a diagnostic challenge. A 52-year-old male presented with an ulcerated lesion over the scalp for 8 years. The wedge biopsy of the lesion showed an infiltrating tumour in the upper dermis and mid-dermis with focal attachment with the epidermis.
