Practical clinical management of ocular adverse events related to Antibody-Drug Conjugates in gynaecological malignancies.

Cancer Treat Rev

December 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, Aix-Marseille Univ, Inserm, CNRS, Institut Paoli-Calmettes, Marseille, France. Electronic address:

Background: The advent of Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADC) represents a significant advancement in targeted therapy for gynaecological malignancies. However, the ocular toxicities associated with ADCs, particularly Tisotumab Vedotin (TV) and Mirvetuximab Soravtansine (MIRV) necessitate effective mitigation in order to optimise patient care.

Methods: This review synthesises findings from clinical trials to delineate the spectrum of ocular adverse events induced by ADCs.

DBI/ACBP is a phylogenetically ancient hormone that stimulates appetite and lipo-anabolism. In response to starvation, DBI/ACBP is secreted through a noncanonical, macroautophagy/autophagy-dependent pathway. The physiological hunger reflex involves starvation-induced secretion of DBI/ACBP from multiple cell types.

Multiple Pyoderma Gangrenosum Overlying AV Fistula Treated With Colchicine: A Case Report.

Can J Kidney Health Dis

October 2024

Département de Médecine, Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal, QC, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • - Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare condition that causes painful ulcers, which can occur after trauma like needle insertion, a phenomenon known as pathergy; this report highlights a 69-year-old woman who developed PG after hemodialysis.
  • - The patient experienced painful ulcers at the site of needle insertion on her arteriovenous fistula (AVF), prompting a diagnosis of PG following a thorough evaluation that ruled out other causes.
  • - Treatment involved suspending dialysis through the AVF and using medications such as prednisone, topical corticosteroids, and colchicine to manage PG; her condition improved, allowing for safe resumption of dialysis while minimizing the risk of further complications.

Rationale: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by continuous inflammation of the colonic mucosa. Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic liver disease characterized by hypergammaglobulinemia, circulating autoantibodies, interface hepatitis, and favorable response to immunosuppression. An association between IBD and AIH is uncommon, and experts have suggested that in patients with overlapping IBD and AIH, the anti-tumor necrosis factor agents can be used.

Article Synopsis
  • Severe Alcoholic Hepatitis (sAH) is a liver condition resulting from long-term heavy drinking, and corticosteroids are the main treatment option.
  • A study at Amiens University Hospital analyzed gut microbiota in 27 sAH patients before and after a 7-day corticosteroid treatment, finding no significant changes in microbiota composition or SCFA levels.
  • While the gut microbiota remained stable, the study noted a reduction in certain bile acid ratios and LBP levels in serum, suggesting potential improvements in gut barrier function and implications for future treatments targeting gut microbiota.
