As an important CXC chemokine, CXCL8 plays pleiotropic roles in immunological response. In teleost, CXCL8 is involved in cell migration and bacterial invasion. However, the immune antibacterial function of CXCL8 in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) (PoCXCL8) is largely scarce.

The larval and post-larval forms of many marine organisms, such as oysters, crabs, lobster, coral, and fish, utilize ambient acoustic cues to orient, settle, or metamorphose. In this study, the effect of anthropogenic and ambient sounds on the orientation behavior of four larval estuarine fishes was examined in a controlled, laboratory experiment. Pre-settlement size red drum Sciaenops ocellatus, southern flounder Paralichthys lethostigma, spotted seatrout Cynoscion nebulosus, and Florida blenny Chasmodes saburrae larvae were exposed to four sound treatments-control, estuarine soundscape, seismic airguns, and large-ship passage-in a linear acoustic chamber.

Chemokines are a superfamily of chemotactic cytokines that regulate the migration and immune responses of leukocytes. Depending on the arrangement of the first two cysteine residues, chemokines are divided into four groups: CXC (α), CC (β), C (γ), and CX3C (δ). Chemokine C-C motif ligand 34 (CCL34) is a member of the CC chemokine family and is known as a fish-specific CC chemokine.

Fish and fish products are one of the most important food sources of high commercial interest. The global food trade and the associated risks are constantly presenting new challenges to consumer protection and public authorities, which, among other things, demand state-of-the-art analytical methods to ensure food authenticity. The establishment of MS-based strategies plays a decisive role alongside the (further) development of ELISA- or DNA-oriented methods.

The continued emergence of new antibiotic resistant bacterial strains has resulted in great interest in the development of new antimicrobial treatments. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are one of many potential classes of molecules to help meet this emerging need. AMPs are naturally derived sequences, which act as part of the innate immune system of organisms ranging from insects through humans.
