A consistent part of gas sensor research activities aims to improve sensing performances by synthesizing new sensing materials, improving the selection of elements in arrays, and optimizing the feature extraction and classification algorithms. This paper combines most of these aspects to confer selectivity to a low-selectivity sensor by using feature extraction algorithms applied to the sensor response kinetics. Several algorithms were employed to represent the kinetic behavior of the sensor response during the adsorption and desorption phases.

Purpose: To synthesize the current literature on posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction and repair, focusing on a comparison of surgical techniques and outcomes based on injury chronicity in the setting of sports-related ligament tears.

Methods: A systematic review of the literature, including queries of the PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases, was performed in March 2024. Studies were included if they were of Level IV evidence or greater, reported PLC reconstruction or repair outcomes, and had a minimum 2-year follow-up.

Infrared laser stimulation of the cochlea has been proposed as a possible alternative to conventional auditory prostheses. Whereas previous studies have focused primarily on the short-term effects of laser stimulation, the practical application of this technics requires an investigation into whether prolonged laser exposure can induce neural responses and safely. This study assessed the effect of laser-induced damage to the cochlea on auditory perception using Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) trained with a classical conditioning task.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the impact of a blast injury on intra-compartmental pressure (ICP) in the lower leg of pigs, aiming to create a more natural model of acute compartment syndrome (ACS).
  • Researchers induced a tibial fracture and simulated a blast injury, monitoring ICP and comparing injured limbs to control legs.
  • Results showed that blast injuries significantly elevated ICP, with sustained high pressures observed even at 48-72 hours post-injury, despite not needing external manipulation to achieve these levels.
