The histological reactions to the implantation of allogenetic and xenogenetic lyophilized and gamma-sterilized material into the middle ear of rabbits and men is described. In contrary to the behaviour of allogenetic material the xenogenetic shows a clear minor tendency of revitalisation. The reason is the antigen-antibody-reaction which takes place at the capillary network of the donor and leads to a hylinosis with following obliteration of the vascular rete. Therefore the angiogenetic osteogenesis cannot develop. The clinical usuability of such material is discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • Human amniotic membrane (hAM) is a valuable biological scaffold for tissue engineering, and this study developed a new decellularization method to enhance its properties.
  • The new decellularization-preservation process showed effective removal of cellular components while preserving important structural proteins and improving mechanical strength compared to other treatments.
  • In tests with human bone marrow stem cells and animal models, the decellularized hAM (D-hAM) demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and potential for tissue engineering applications, making it a promising option for future research.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of a lyophilized and gamma-sterilized allogeneic freeze-dried bone wedge as a spacer for advancement of a modified tibial tuberosity (mTTA) in 16 knees that were clinically diagnosed with cranial cruciate ligament disease. Patients underwent radiography before the surgical procedure as well as immediately after surgery and at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days post-surgery, and their locomotion was evaluated at the same time points except for the immediate postoperative period. The surgical wounds were evaluated for signs of infection and rejection of the bone implant.

Serum of animal origin and in particular fetal bovine serum is the most commonly utilized cell culture medium additive for in vitro cell growth and differentiation. However, several major concerns have been raised by the scientific community regarding the use of animal sera for human cell-based culture applications. Among the possible alternatives to the animal serum, platelet-derived compounds have been proposed since more than 10 years.
