The intercalation properties of graphite oxide are important; however, the specific processes and mechanisms associated with intercalation have rarely been elucidated. In this paper, two types of surfactants, polyvinylpyrrolidone and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide, were used to thoroughly explore the intercalation properties of graphite oxide. The polyvinylpyrrolidone and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide-intercalated graphite oxide composites were synthesized under different conditions and characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy.

Loading capacity and interaction of DNA binding on catanionic vesicles with different cationic surfactants.

Soft Matter

December 2014

Key Laboratory of Colloid and Interface Chemistry & Key Laboratory of Special Aggregated Materials, Shandong University, Ministry of Education, Jinan 250100, China.

Cationic and anionic (catanionic) vesicles were constructed from the mixtures of sodium laurate (SL) and alkyltrimethylammonium bromide (CnTAB, n = 12, 14, and 16) and were used to control the loading capacity of DNA. The binding saturation point (BSP) of DNA to catanionic vesicles increases with the chain length of cationic surfactants, which is at 1.0, 1.

A multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) product Mitsui MWNT-7 is a mixture of dispersed single fibers and their agglomerates/aggregates. In rodents, installation of such mixture induces inflammatory lesions triggered predominantly by the aggregates/agglomerates at the level of terminal bronchiole of the lungs. In human, however, pulmonary toxicity induced by dispersed single fibers that reached the lung alveoli is most important to assess.

Polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) are synthesized chemicals essential to minimize accidents and deaths resulting from fire-outbreaks. Despite their usefulness, public health concern is on the increase over their use. PBDE is global in use, persistent in the environment, and possess the ability to bio-accumulate.
