Background: Antimicrobial resistance remains a worldwide health problem with serious societal and economical repercussions. Multidrug resistant and Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase producing-Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) are pathogens of critical public health priority that urgently require the research and development of new drugs. This study aims to determine the prevalence and characterize the genes conferring resistance to β-lactams among Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from patients with urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the West region, Cameroon.

Environmentally induced epigenetic transgenerational inheritance of phenotypic variation and disease susceptibility requires the germ cell (sperm or egg) transmission of integrated epigenetic mechanisms involving DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA (ncRNA) actions. Previous studies have demonstrated that transgenerational exposure and disease-specific differential DNA methylation regions (DMRs) in sperm are observed and that ncRNA-mediated DNA methylation occurs. The current study was designed to determine if transgenerational exposure-specific ncRNAs exist in sperm.

Though phased out from use in the United States, environmental contamination by organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) remains a widespread issue, especially around intensive agricultural regions. OCPs, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its primary metabolite, dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), have been detected in soils, sediments, surface waters, and biota decades after their discontinued use. As OCPs are persistent and can bioaccumulate in fats, these compounds can transfer and magnify across food webs.

Epigenetic alterations, changes in gene expression without DNA sequence modifications, are associated with various health disorders, including reproductive health issues. These alterations can be influenced by environmental factors such as pesticides. This study aimed to explore the relationship between exposure to Organochlorine Pesticides (OClPs) and the histone modification mark H3K9ac in the placenta and fetal tissue, in the context of unexplained recurrent miscarriage (URM).
