The characteristic purple colour formed by N-formyl-N'-2,4-dinitrophenyl-hydrazine in the presence of piperidine and acetone was made the basis of a new quantitative method for the determination of formyl groups. Samples containing N-formyl groups (up to 0.4mumole) are hydrazinolysed at 97-98 degrees for 1hr. and are dinitrophenylated after the removal of excess of hydrazine. Interference from 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine is eliminated by subjecting the dinitrophenylated samples to chromatography on an alumina column. Interference arising from the formation of N-acetyl-N'-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, when determining formyl groups in samples containing acetyl, can be avoided by a paper-chromatographic separation before analysis. A standard procedure is described. The method gives satisfactory results when applied to N-formyl-amino acids. Gramicidin, when analysed by this method, was found to contain 0.89 mole of formyl group/mole for a molecular weight of 1880. The method indicated the absence of formyl groups from lysozyme, a protein known not to contain such groups. Generally, the analytical values obtained by the method are within 100+/-4% of theory.

Tibetan donkeys inhabit the harsh environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Research on serum metabolites related to their high-altitude adaptation is limited compared to other livestock. We used liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to analyze serum samples from healthy adult donkeys in Shigatse, Changdu, and Dezhou to evaluate the effects of high altitudes on serum metabolites.

A variety of α-arylated sulfoxonium ylides could be facilely synthesized in modest to high yields through α-arylation of sulfoxonium ylides with aryl fluorosulfates C-O bond functionalization under palladium catalysis. Reactions using readily available and bench-stable aryl fluorosulfates as effective and appealing arylating agents showed both good substrate scope and broad functionality tolerance. Important functional groups such as nitro, cyano, formyl, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, trifluoromethoxy, fluoro, and chloro embedded in substrates remained intact during the course of the reaction, and could be subjected to downstream modification.

Schiff bases derived from aminoguanidine are extensively investigated for their structural versatility. The tridentate 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazones act as analogues of 2-formyl or 2-acetylpyridine thiosemicarbazones, where the thioamide unit is replaced by the guanidyl group. Six derivatives of 2-formylpyridine guanylhydrazone were synthesized and their proton dissociation and complex formation processes with Cu(II), Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions were studied using pH-potentiometry, UV-visible, NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic methods.

,-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a widely used solvent, and its green and low-carbon synthesis methods are in high demand. Herein, we report a new approach for DMF synthesis using a continuous flow reaction system with a fixed-bed reactor and a ZnO-TiO solid solution catalyst. This catalyst effectively utilizes CO, H, and dimethylamine (DMA) as feedstocks, demonstrating performance with 99% DMF selectivity and single-pass DMA conversion approaching thermodynamic equilibrium.

In this study, waste polystyrene was modified and upgraded to prepare formylated polystyrene, and the modified polystyrene acetyl hydrazone (LT-HPA) was synthesized by condensation with polymethyl-propionyl-hydrazine. It is proven that the modification of the adsorption material is successful by various characterization methods. In the subsequent pollutant removal study, pH, mass, concentration, contact time, and salt ion interference were investigated.
