Percutaneous nephrostomy can be an effective means of preventing irreparable renal damage from obstructive renal disease thereby providing patients with more time to access treatment to remove the source of the blockage. In sub-Saharan Africa, where there is limited access to treatments such as dialysis and transplantation, a nephrostomy can be life-saving. Training this procedure in simulation can allow trainees to develop their technical skills without risking patient safety, but still requires an ex-pert observer to provide performative feedback.

Background: This research aimed to identify risk factors contributing to premature maturation of arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) in elderly diabetic patients and develop a clinical prediction model.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 548 geriatric diabetic patients who underwent AVF creation for maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) at Baoding No 1 Central Hospital between January 2011 and December 2023. Patients were divided into mature (386) and immature (162) groups based on AVF maturation status.

Objectives: Basilic vein transposition (BVT) surgery is a crucial option for vascular access in hemodialysis patients when other alternatives are unavailable. One of the primary complications affecting the long-term function of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) is the development of pseudoaneurysms, often caused by repeated punctures at the same site. This study aims to evaluate whether increasing the length of the basilic vein available for cannulation during the second stage of BVT surgery reduces the risk of puncture-related pseudoaneurysms, thereby improving fistula longevity and functionality.

We present a case of biopsy-proven epithelioid angiosarcoma in an arteriovenous fistula (AVF). Angiosarcomas developing in non-functioning AVF in renal transplant recipients are rare clinical entities with poor prognosis. A 59-year-old male adequately immunosuppressed kidney transplant patient presented with pain and swelling at the site of a previously asymptomatic fistula.
