Foliar spray double-stranded RNA targeting HvIAP1 induces high larval and adult mortality in Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata.

Pest Manag Sci

January 2025

Shenzhen Branch, Guangdong Laboratory of Lingnan Modern Agriculture, Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shenzhen, China.

Background: Exogenous double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) has the potential to serve as an effective alternative to conventional chemical pesticides for the control of insect pests, because it can specifically inhibit essential gene expression in these organisms. However, identifying suitable gene targets remains a crucial step in the development of RNA interference (RNAi)-based pest control strategies.

Results: In this study, three apoptosis-related genes were selected to evaluate their potential for RNAi-induced lethality in Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata via foliar spray dsRNAs.

Ways to Measure Metals: From ICP-MS to XRF.

Curr Environ Health Rep

January 2025

School of Health Sciences, Purdue University, West-Lafayette, IN, 47906, USA.

Purpose Of Review: This review explores the use of Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) for quantifying metals and metalloids in biological matrices such as hair, nails, blood, bone, and tissue. It provides a comprehensive overview of these methodologies, detailing their technological limitations, application scopes, and practical considerations for selection in both laboratory and field settings. By examining traditional and novel aspects of each method, this review aims to guide researchers and clinical practitioners in choosing the most suitable analytical tool based on their specific needs for sensitivity, precision, speed, and sample preparation.

Considering the significance of fenugreek as a valuable medicinal and food plant, assessing the genetic diversity of different populations of this species is essential for optimizing performance and adaptability to environmental conditions. This study aims to investigate genetic diversity and identify important phenotypic traits in various Iranian fenugreek accessions ("Mashhad", "Tehran", "Yazd", "Shiraz", "Birjand", "Isfahan", "Kerman", "Kalat", "Neyshabur"), an experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications and nine treatments (accessions) in Iran. The results showed that the highest seed yield was observed in "Kalat" (120.

Evaluating solar power plant sites using integrated GIS and MCDM methods: a case study in Kermanshah Province.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis, CA, 95616, USA.

This study utilizes an integrated Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach to perform Solar Power Plant Site Selection (SPPSS) in Kermanshah Province, Iran. It introduces a novel group weighting method, the Dempster-based Best-Worst Method (DBWM), which combines weights vectors derived from experts' opinions. The study also conducts a comprehensive sensitivity analysis comparing four GIS-based models for SPPSS.

Integrating mitochondrial and lysosomal gene analysis for breast cancer prognosis using machine learning.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Departments of Breast Surgery, First Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, 210029, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China.

The impact of mitochondrial and lysosomal co-dysfunction on breast cancer patient outcomes is unclear. The objective of this study is to develop a predictive machine learning (ML) model utilizing mitochondrial and lysosomal co-regulators in order to provide a foundation for future studies focused on breast cancer (BC) patients' stratification and personalized interventions. Firstly, Differences and correlations of mitochondrial and lysosome related genes were screened and validated by differential analysis, copy number variation (CNV), single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) and correlation analysis.
