Large-bore aspiration thrombectomy for the treatment of pulmonary embolism in octogenarians.

CVIR Endovasc

January 2025

Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Indiana University School of Medicine, 550 University Blvd, Room 0641, Indianapolis, IN, 46202, USA.

Purpose: To evaluate outcomes in patients aged ≥ 80 years following large-bore aspiration thrombectomy (LBAT) for the treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE).

Materials And Methods: All patients ≥ 80 years of age with PE treated via LBAT at a single center were analyzed from September 2019 - August 2024. This included the octogenarian subgroup from a recently published retrospective analysis assessing all PE patients treated with LBAT at our center between September 2019 and January 2023.

Blood Flow Velocity Analysis in Cerebral Perforating Arteries on 7T 2D Phase Contrast MRI with an Open-Source Software Tool (SELMA).

Neuroinformatics

January 2025

Translational Neuroimaging Group, Center for Image Sciences, University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Blood flow velocity in the cerebral perforating arteries can be quantified in a two-dimensional plane with phase contrast magnetic imaging (2D PC-MRI). The velocity pulsatility index (PI) can inform on the stiffness of these perforating arteries, which is related to several cerebrovascular diseases. Currently, there is no open-source analysis tool for 2D PC-MRI data from these small vessels, impeding the usage of these measurements.

Accessory posterior cerebral artery as a duplicate anterior choroidal artery.

Surg Radiol Anat

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Nakamura Memorial Hospital, South 1, West 14, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, 060-8570, Japan.

Purpose: Anatomical variations in the anterior choroidal artery (AChA) and/or the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) are rare. Hyperplastic AChA is an anatomical variant supplying both the AChA area and the PCA area. In accessory PCA, a hyperplastic AChA supplies part of the PCA territory.

Blockchain Technology: Overview and Applications in Radiology.

AJR Am J Roentgenol

January 2025

Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, 11234 Anderson St., Loma Linda, CA 92354.

Blockchain technology (BCT) enables the building of a distributed decentralized network that securely stores and exchanges unchangeable data, controlled by individual users. In healthcare, BCT may help streamline interoperability and information transmission while guaranteeing medical record authenticity and safeguarding patient privacy. Possible applications in radiology include patient-controlled image sharing, facilitation of multiinstitutional research, and artificial intelligence integration.

Objective: There is a lack of consensus regarding the optimal antithrombotic therapy (ATT) after popliteal and infrapopliteal (PIP) endovascular therapy (EVT). Currently, dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) for 3 months and single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) are the most prescribed regimens in the Netherlands. Thus far, no randomized comparison has been performed on the optimal ATT approach.
