The incidence of type 2 diabetes has risen globally, in parallel with the obesity epidemic and environments promoting a sedentary lifestyle and low-quality diet. There has been scrutiny of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) as a driver of type 2 diabetes, underscored by their increasing availability and intake worldwide, across countries of all incomes. Background: Currently, the pathophysiology of new bone formation in radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) remains unclear. Cellular elements and their secreted bone turnover markers might be one of the underlying mechanisms that drive the new bone formation. Our study aimed to investigate the role of bone turnover markers in r-axSpA patients with fatty lesions.

Neurite degeneration (ND) precedes cell death in many neurodegenerative diseases. However, it remains unclear how this compartmentalized cell death process is orchestrated in the central nervous system (CNS). The establishment of a CNS axotomy model (using modified 3D LUHMES cultures) allowed us to study metabolic control of ND in human midbrain-derived neurons without the use of toxicants or other direct disturbance of cellular metabolism.
