The Respiratory Exchange Ratio (RER), which is the ratio of total carbon dioxide produced over total oxygen consumed, serves as a qualitative measure to determine the substrate usage of a particular organism on the whole-body level. Quantification of RER by its direct conversion into %Glucose (%G) and %Lipid oxidation (%L) at a given timepoint can be done by utilizing nonprotein respiratory quotient tables. These tables, however, are limited to specific increments, and intermediate RER values are not covered by these tables.

rGO/HfO nanocomposite-enabled electrochemical sensor for high-performance pesticide detection.

Talanta

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Connecticut, CT, 06269, United States. Electronic address:

This study applies a periodic table-guided approach to select and investigate hafnium oxide (HfO), in conjunction with reduced graphene oxide (rGO), for the electrochemical determination of methyl parathion (MP), an organophosphate insecticide. MP poses significant ecological and health risks due to its high toxicity, and despite bans, illegal use has been reported, especially in the global south. To address these challenges, an electrode modified with a nanocomposite of rGO/HfO was first constructed for MP detection.

Background: Individuals with hearing impairments may face hindrances in health care assistance, which may significantly impact the prognosis and the incidence of complications and iatrogenic events. Therefore, the development of automatic communication systems to assist the interaction between this population and health care workers is paramount.

Objective: This study aims to systematically review the evidence on communication systems using human-computer interaction techniques developed for deaf people who communicate through sign language that are already in use or proposed for use in health care contexts and have been tested with human users or videos of human users.

In this study, we show that on-chip grown, vertically aligned MoS films that are decorated with Ni(OH) catalyst are suitable materials to be applied as working electrodes in electrochemical sensing. The constructed sensors display a highly repeatable response to dopamine, used as a model analyte, in a large dynamic range from 1 μM to 1 mM with a theoretical detection limit of 0.1 μM.

How do we co-produce care planning with people living with dementia: A scoping review.

Int J Nurs Stud

January 2025

Department of Psychology, School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London, London, UK.

Background: Legislation, policy and clinical guidance champions the values of co-production in good care planning; however, it is unclear what kind of information is available in the literature about how concepts of co-production have been applied in practice to care planning from the perspective of people living with dementia and their carers as experts-by-experience. A scoping review was conducted to map the current evidence addressing care planning co-production practice from the perspectives of people living with dementia and their carers across various settings of dementia care.

Methods: A two-phase process was employed.
