Retroperitoneal teratomas are rare neoplasms in neonates, presenting with nonspecific symptoms and variable clinical features, making diagnosis challenging. Radiological investigations, particularly fetal ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography, play a critical role in their detection. Differential diagnoses include neuroblastoma, adrenal hemorrhage, and congenital cystic lesions, which share overlapping clinical and imaging features.

Background: Endoscopic gallbladder-preserving cholecystolithotomy (EGPC) has become an alternative option for treating cholecystolithiasis. However, developing a new method of EGPC in which the gallbladder wall is not damaged remains a challenge. This study introduced a new EGPC method called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) combined with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), which preserves the integrity of the gallbladder wall in the treatment of cholecystolithiasis complicated with choledocholithiasis.

This is a retrospective cross-sectional diagnostic test accuracy study of direct immunofluorescence (DIF) performed on a group of potential lupus erythematosus (LE)/dermatomyositis (DM) skin biopsies from 2015 to 2020 at a large, academic medical center. For purposes of this study, which was focused primarily on detection of LE/DM-related interface dermatitis, DIF was considered positive for a LE/DM pattern if it showed granular deposition of immunoglobulin G, with or without C3, at the basement membrane zone on the final pathology report. Blinded clinicopathologic correlation was the reference standard.

Background: Growing evidence suggests that the imbalance between excitability and inhibitory neural activity is a key aspect of cognitive decline. Subclinical epileptiform activity (SEA) has been indicated as a marker of increased cortical excitability. While SEA is considered as a benign EEG sign in the elderly population, recent studies demonstrated its role in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
