Self-organization under out-of-equilibrium conditions is ubiquitous in natural systems for the generation of hierarchical solid-state patterns of complex structures with intricate properties. Efforts in applying this strategy to synthetic materials that mimic biological function have resulted in remarkable demonstrations of programmable self-healing and adaptive materials. However, the extension of these efforts to multifunctional stimuli-responsive solid-state materials across defined spatial distributions remains an unrealized technological opportunity.

Primary cutaneous amoebiasis is rare, and typically affects immunocompromised patients and presents with unique clinical and histopathologic changes. Untreated, the infection could progress to involve the central nervous system, which is almost universally fatal. We present a case of primary cutaneous acanthamoebiasis in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia on acalabrutinib.

Miller-Fisher syndrome (MFS) is characterized by the three major components of ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and areflexia. The occurrence of MFS is relatively uncommon because of its monophasic nature, while recurrent Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a well-known condition. The pharyngeal-cervical-brachial (PCB) variant is a scarce variant of GBS (3%), which presents with muscle weakness initially involving the neck, oropharynx, and upper extremities.

Unusual Inertness of a Ta Cluster in Dinitrogen Reactions.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

Beijing National Laboratory for Molecular Science (BNLMS), State Key Laboratory for Structural Chemistry of Unstable and Stable Species, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Clusters are key for understanding how the structure of materials relates to their properties, especially at the atomic level.
  • There’s growing interest in stable clusters, but this isn’t the same for all transition metal clusters.
  • Research on pure tantalum clusters showed that their stability and interactions with dinitrogen involve complex electronic behaviors and reaction dynamics, aiding insights for creating materials that can effectively resist nitrogen.

Objective: To compare biomarkers of neurovascular unit (NVU) - S100β, NSE, BDNF and indicators of the brain electrical activity in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) depending on the use of different versions of multi-tasking cognitive training (CT).

Material And Methods: The study included 89 people, of whom 47 completed the CTI (postural and three cognitive tasks (counting backwards, verbal fluency and the open-ended task «Unusual use of an ordinary object») and 42 patients, who underwent CTII (visuomotor reaction and the same cognitive tasks) in the early postoperative CABG period. The patients of both groups underwent complex testing of psychomotor, executive functions, attention, short-term memory and EEG study in the perioperative period of CABG.
