Background: Recent studies indicate the need to examine how the gut microbiota-brain axis is implicated in pain, sensory reactivity and gastro-intestinal symptoms in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but no scale exists that assesses all these constructs simultaneously.

Methods: We created a pool of 100 items based on the real-world experience of autistic people, and a multidisciplinary team and stakeholders reduced this pool to 50 items assessing pain, sensory hypersensitivity, and sensory hyposensitivity. In the present study, we present this new assessment tool, the Pain and Sensitivity Reactivity Scale (PSRS), and examine its psychometric properties in a sample of 270 individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD; mean age = 9.

Opposite effects of sevoflurane at high and low concentration on the airway inflammation in juvenile asthma rats: A TMT-based proteomics analysis study.

Int Immunopharmacol

December 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University, Zunyi, Guizhou, China; Translational Neurology Laboratory, Affiliated Hospital of ZunYi Medical University, Zunyi, China. Electronic address:

Background: The incidence of sevoflurane-related adverse respiratory events in children with asthma is notably high. During different phases of sevoflurane anesthesia, asthmatic children's airways are exposed to varying concentrations of the anesthetic. However, the specific effects of different concentrations of sevoflurane on the developing airways with asthmatic hyperreactivity have not been systematically studied.

Circulating MicroRNAs in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Narrative Review.

Curr Issues Mol Biol

December 2024

Molecular Biology Laboratory, Department of Research in Pulmonary Fibrosis, National Institute of Respiratory Diseases "Ismael Cosío Villegas", Calzada de Tlalpan 4502, Col. Sección XVI, Mexico City 14080, Mexico.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, deathly disease with no recognized effective cure as yet. Furthermore, its diagnosis and differentiation from other diffuse interstitial diseases remain a challenge. Circulating miRNAs have been measured in IPF and have proven to be an adequate option as biomarkers for this disease.

Article Synopsis
  • Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare inflammatory condition that includes symptoms like daily fevers, joint pain, skin rashes, and spleen enlargement, often requiring tests to rule out blood cancers.
  • A case study of a 38-year-old man revealed symptoms such as fatigue, high fever, night sweats, and skin rashes, leading to extensive testing, including CT and PET/CT scans that showed enlarged lymph nodes and high metabolic activity in his spleen and bone marrow.
  • Ultimately, biopsies of the lymph node and bone marrow showed signs of hyperreactivity but no cancer, confirming AOSD as a diagnosis of exclusion, particularly when high ferritin levels and systemic symptoms are present

Background: A dysregulated stress response, including exaggerated affective reactivity and abnormal hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responsivity, has been implicated in the etiology, maintenance, and relapse of major depressive disorder (MDD). Among adolescents, discordant affective and physiological stress response profiles have been linked to negative affective outcomes and increased risk for psychopathology. Whether these findings extend to adults with varying degree of MDD risk is unclear, as are possible links to various risk factors.
