Background: α-Mangostin is a xanthone isolated from the pericarps of mangosteen fruit with, and has analgesic properties. Although the effects suggest an interaction of α-mangostin with ion channels in the nociceptive neurons, electrophysiological investigation of the underlying mechanism has not been performed.
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that α-Mangostin exerts its analgesic effects by modulating the activity of various ion channels in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons.

Engineered bacteria are promising bioagents to synthesize antitumor drugs at tumor sites with the advantages of avoiding drug leakage and degradation during delivery. Here, we report an optically controlled material-assisted microbial system by biosynthesizing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the surface of K3259 () to obtain Bac@Au. Leveraging the dual directional electron transport mechanism of , the hybrid biosystem enhances synthesis of antineoplastic tetrodotoxin (TTX) for a promising antitumor effect.

Genetically encoded calcium indicators have proven useful for characterizing dorsal root ganglion neuron excitability in vivo. Challenges persist in achieving high spatial-temporal resolutions in vivo, however, due to deep tissue imaging and motion artifacts that may be limiting technical factors in obtaining measurements. Here we report an ex vivo imaging method, using a peripheral neuron-specific Advillin-GCaMP mouse line and electric field stimulation of dorsal root ganglion tissues, to assess the sensitivity of neurons en bloc.

Background: Fish are increasingly being utilized as a model species for genetic manipulation studies related to gastrointestinal (GI) motility. Our aim was to identify whether patterns of GI motility in fish and the mechanisms underlying their generation are similar to those recorded from mammals (including humans).
Methods: The entire intestine was removed from euthanized adult Silver Perch (n = 11) and lesioned at the midway point to obtain two equal lengths.

Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a heat-stable neurotoxin typically associated with pufferfish intoxications. It has also been detected in shellfish from Japan, the United Kingdom, Greece, China, Italy, the Netherlands and New Zealand. A recent European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) scientific opinion concluded that a level of <0.
