Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) are among the main disease-driving players in most cases of monoarthritis (MonoA), oligoarthritis, and polyarthritis. In this review, we look at the characteristics and therapeutic challenges at the onset of arthritis and during follow-up management. In some cases, these forms of arthritis develop into autoimmune polyarthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), whereas local eradication of the RA synovium could still be combined with systemic treatment using immunosuppressive agents.

Synovectomy refers to the removal of all or part of the hypertrophied soft tissue membrane on the inside of the joint capsule or around tendons. Historically, this was typically performed for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions of the hand, but following the development of more advanced medical treatments, the role of synovectomy has come into question. In this article, the authors outline the biologic basis for synovectomy and then consider its present and future role in the management of joint and tendon disease, followed by what further research is needed.

This report describes the arthroscopic treatment of septic arthritis of the ankle joint in two patients with inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and nail psoriasis. We treated both the ankle joints with antibiotic administration and urgent arthroscopic synovectomy and irrigation, although the procedure was performed several days (4 and 6 days) after the time at which the infection would have occurred. Fortunately, no recurrence has been seen for more than 18 and 20 months, respectively, after surgery, without antibiotic administration.

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by symmetric polyarthritis. RA is routinely treated by various systemic drugs; on the other hand, administration of intra-articular corticosteroids or different types of synovectomies can be used in case of systemic medication's failure. Chemical, radio isotopic, and surgical synovectomies are being used as therapeutic options for chronic synovitis to improve joint function.
