Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether lacrimal gland tissue stiffness can aid in diagnosing dry eye disease (DED) using shear wave elastography (SWE). We also aimed to assess the correlation between the subjective symptoms of ocular strain, SWE values, and other ocular examination findings (Schirmer's test and tear film breakup time [TBUT]) contributing to the diagnosis of DED.

Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 300 participants who were engaged in video display terminal (VDT) work and had been diagnosed with DED by an ophthalmologist for more than one year, and 100 healthy participants without DED symptoms, from August 2020 to December 2021.

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). There is currently no effective treatment for JE, and all approved Japanese encephalitis vaccine products originated from the JEV genotype III (GIII). In recent years, JEV genotype I (GI) has gradually replaced GIII as the dominant genotype, and a new symptom of peripheral nerve injury (PNI) caused by JEV NX1889 strain has attracted wide attention, in which JEV envelope (E) protein may be involved in early peripheral nerve injury.

Streptococcus pyogenes M1UK Variant-Associated Sartorius Muscle Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cureus

December 2024

Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, Graduate School of Infection Control Sciences & Ōmura Satoshi Memorial Institute, Kitasato University, Tokyo, JPN.

Necrotizing soft tissue infections (NTSIs) represent a concept of necrotizing infections involving the skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, and muscle, and it is a potentially fatal disease. Early exploratory incision is strongly recommended for both the diagnosis and treatment of necrotizing soft tissue infections. Treatment of necrotizing soft tissue infections requires the administration of appropriate antimicrobial agents and adequate surgical debridement.

Highly compressible lamellar graphene/cellulose/sodium alginate aerogel via bidirectional freeze-drying for flexible pressure sensor.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Jiangsu Co-Innovation Center of Efficient Processing and Utilization of Forest Resources, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing 210037, China; College of Materials Science and Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing 210037, China. Electronic address:

Graphene exhibits exceptional electrical properties, and aerogels made from it demonstrate high sensitivity when used in sensors. However, traditional graphene aerogels have poor biocompatibility and sustainability, posing potential environmental and health risks. Moreover, the stacking of their internal structures results in low compressive strength and fatigue resistance, which limits their further applications.

Engineering Research Center of Ecology and Agricultural Use of Wetland, Ministry of Education, MARA Key Laboratory of Sustainable Crop Production in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River (Co-construction by Ministry and Province), Hubei Engineering Research Center for Pest Forewarning and Management, College of Agriculture, Yangtze University, Jingzhou 434025, Hubei, China. Electronic address:

Autophagy is a conserved and unique degradation system in eukaryotic cells, which plays crucial roles in the growth, development and pathogenesis of Fungi. Despite that, it is poorly understood in Fusarium graminearum currently. Here, we identified an autophagy gene FgAtg27 from F.
